Rochester 77, Emory 72

ATLANTA — Seth Hauben and Jeff Juron combined for all the points in a 9-2 run down the stretch as the University of Rochester rallied for a 76-72 victory over host Emory University here.

Hauben scored five points and Juron added four – all from the foul line – in the final 2:35.

The victory helps Rochester maintain its first place lead in the University Athletic Association. UR is 6-1 in the UAA, 15-3 overall. Rochester has won five straight and 10 of the last 11.

Emory (3-4 UAA, 11-6) took its first lead of the game, 70-67, with 2:51 left when Rashawn Allen scored on a breakaway layup, then added a free throw.

Hauben’s putback with 2:35 left got Rochester within a point. Juron made both ends of a one-and-one with 1:13 left for a 71-70 lead.

Jeff Hall drove for a layup and was fouled with 57.6 seconds left, putting Emory ahead, 72-71. Hall missed the free throw.

Hauben scored inside with 36.5 seconds left, then stole a pass intended for Chase Fawsett with 14 seconds remaining. He made the second of two free throws. Emory turned the ball over with less than a second to play and Juron made two foul shots to clinch the win.

Hauben led all scorers with 24 points. Juron added 14 points, five assists, and three steals. Jon Onyiriuka had 12 points.

Fawsett led four double figure scorers for Emory with 18 points. Hall scored 16. Spiros Ferderigos and Allen had 15 each.

Rochester’s last three games in Atlanta have come down to the wire. The Yellowjackets won, 68-67, two years ago, and 75-72 last year.

Carnegie Mellon is 4-2 in the UAA. The Tartans will play at Case Western Reserve on Wednesday, Feb. 23. They could not get out of the Atlanta Airport as originally scheduled.

Conversely, Rochester couldn’t leave Cleveland Saturday for Atlanta. The Yellowjackets awoke before dawn, took an early morning flight to Atlanta on Sunday, and stepped on the court to play less than four hours after landing.

Emory comes to the Palestra on Friday.
