Salem State 70, Worcester State 65

WORCESTER, Ma — The Worcester State College men’s basketball team dropped this afternoon’s game to the Salem State College Vikings by the final score of, 70-65, in Lancer Gymnasium on the campus of Worcester State College. The loss drops the Lancers to 10-7 (3-3 MASCAC), while Salem State improves to 15-3 (5-1 MASCAC).

After trailing at the break by three points, 34-31, Worcester State took the lead four minutes into the second half on a lay-up by Jermaine Cannon (Dorchester, MA). The Lancers would lead by as many as 8 points before a three pointer by Isaiah Bradshaw (Cambridge, MA) with 7 minutes remaining would give the Vikings a, 61-58, lead that they would never relinquish. Worcester State would get to within 1 point when a Tom Sullivan (Auburn, MA) free throw set the score at, 66-65, with 1:04 remaining, but the Vikings held off the charge.

Salem State got two huge performances from junior Ifesinachi Anosike (Staten Island, NY) and senior guard Allen Reid (Southbridge, MA). Anosike was immense scoring 18 points and grabbing 23 rebounds. Reid also scored 18 points scoring 15 of them from beyond the three-point line.

Worcester State was led by Cannon who had a game-high 19 points. Sullivan added 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Worcester State will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Fitchburg State. Salem next takes to the court on Tuesday when they travel to UMass-Dartmouth.
