Western New England 70, Suffolk 58

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Junior guard Jon Godbout (Bristol, CT) scored 19 of his career high 28 points in the second half to lead Western New England College to a 70-58 victory over visiting Suffolk University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game.

Playing the entire contest, Godbout made 11-of-16 shots from the field (including 2-of-4 thee-pointers), all four free throws, and added five steals, four rebounds, and only two turnovers.

Sophomore forward Jim Bayne (Bristol, CT) contributed 19 points and 13 rebounds for his 10th double double of the season. He also made 11-of-12 free throws.

Senior point guard Jeremy Sternstein (Ithaca, NY) didn't score, but dished out six assists, and had three steals and three rebounds.

WNEC swept the two-game season series with Suffolk (winning 72-57 on January 8 in Boston), but it wasn't easy.

The Rams bolted to 27-15 lead with 6:40 left in the first half and held a 32-24 advantage at intermission.

Western New England College (11-7, 7-4) trailed 43-41 with 13:16 remaining in the contest before going on a 20-5 run for a 61-48 lead following a three-pointer by Godbout at the 6:41 mark. Senior forward Jason Cardinal (Ashaway, RI) played a key role for the Golden Bears by scoring all eight of his points during that stretch.

Sophomore guard Clinton Lassiter (Boston, MA) was outstanding for Suffolk (5-11, 3-6) compiling a double double with 16 points (6-for-9 from the field) and 14 rebounds. Senior guard Chris Emma (Braintree, MA) added 13 points while junior forward Josh Morelock (Poplar Grove, IL) had 10 points and five rebounds.

Western New England College outscored Suffolk by a 46-26 margin the second half.
