Gordon 65, Wentworth 50

BOSTON, Mass. — Sophomore forward Mike Herr (Lampeter, Pa.) scored 17 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out five assists to pace Gordon (11-6, 5-3 Commonwealth Coast Conference) to a 65-50 win over Wentworth (6-12, 4-6).

With the game tied 4-all, Gordon went on a 19-0 run over the next 7:48 to take a 23-4 lead, buoyed by three three-pointers from Herr. Wentworth used a quick 7-2 spurt to get the score to 25-11 with 10:03 left, and would get their lead back to as much as 21 before Wentworth scored the final six points of the half to trail 34-19 at the break.

Wentworth began the second half scoring the first three points – all by freshman guard Jason DaCosta (Cambridge, Mass.) – to cut the lead to 12, but a 14-4 run by Gordon brought the Fighting Scts lead back up to 22.

Trailing by 22 with just under nine minutes to play, Wentworth started to close the gap, using a 14-3 run to trail by 11 with 3:14 left. During the run, freshman guard Sherrard Prezzie-Blue (Norwalk, Conn.) scored five of the 14 points. A pair of free throws by sophomore guard Jerry Logan (Marietta, Ga.) with 2:39 left, followed by a Logan layup with 2:24 left upped the lead to 15 , to which Wentworth could not recover.

Freshman guard Justin Kaufman (Redding, Conn.) and Logan each had 13 for the Fighting Scots. For Wentworth, Prezzie-Blue scored 13 points, while senior forward Carmino DeMercurio (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) scored 12 points, grabbed five rebounds, and blocked three shots.
