Washington College 84, Dickinson 73

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Junior forward Jonathan Webb scored a game-high 29 points and surpassed the 1,000 career-point mark as host Washington College defeated visiting Dickinson, 84-73, in Centennial Conference men's basketball action this afternoon at Cain Athletic Center. With the win, the Shoremen (8-10, 5-6 Centennial) moved into a three-way tie for sixth place in the Centennial with the Red Devils (8-10, 5-6) and Muhlenberg College.

Webb scored the 1,000th and 1,001st points of his collegiate career on a jumper with 4:44 remaining in the game. He is the 30th player in school history to reach the mark.

The Shoremen grabbed the lead for good on a Webb lay-up that made it 19-18 with 12:33 left in the first half. Washington took a 37-30 advantage into halftime and led by as many as 13 points in the second half, before the Red Devils battled back, cutting the lead to one on a lay-up by Travis Doll with 2:23 to play that made it 73-72.

A pair of Webb free throws with 1:29 remaining pushed the lead to 75-72, but Dickinson cut it back down to two points when Dan Sarsfield made one-of-two free throws with 1:06 on the clock. The Shoremen answered on the next possession as junior guard Travis Moore converted a lay-up with 57 seconds to play, making the score 77-73. Dickinson turned the ball over on the next possession and Washington made five-of-six free throws in the final 47 seconds to seal the win. Senior forward Scott Polyniak scored the game's final basket with 10 seconds to play to provide for the final score.

Webb shot 12-of-17 from the field and four-for-five at the line en route to his 29 points. He also pulled down eight rebounds, dished out four assists, and swiped four steals. Washington junior guard Dustin Abbate went five-for-nine from beyond the three-point arc and supplied the Shoremen with 19 points, while Moore chipped in 12 points. Sophomore forward Joe Breslin pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, while senior guard John "China" Alexander dished out a game-high six assists.

Brad Litchfield led the Red Devils with 26 points. Litchfield was nine-of-10 at the free-throw line. Matt Keys was the only other Dickinson player to reach double figures in scoring, finishing with 16 points.
