Transy (15-3, 7-1 in the HCAC) remained in first place in the conference race while Anderson, defeated by the Pioneers for the second time this year, fell to 9-10 and 2-6 in the HCAC. The Pioneers are unbeaten in seven games at home including a 5-0 mark in conference play. Transy has won seven of eight and 14 of its last 16 contests.
Valentine scored 15 points in the opening half, which ended with the Pioneers on top by three, 36-33. He tied his career scoring high set against Anderson in 2003 by canning a free throw with 11 seconds to play to make it 86-82.
Robert Pendleton, who scored 14 points, had two free throws with 1:36 to go to make it 82-78. As Anderson fouled down the stretch, trying to catch up, Pendleton hit two tosses, Valentine his two, and Matt Finke converted two shots. Finke also had a critical layup after Anderson scored five points in a row to get to within 82-80 with 1:10 to go.
Finke, who had 11 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists, scored the final points at the line after Anderson's Andy Warren was called for an intentional foul.
J.D. Clampitt tallied 26 points for the Ravens and Azch Henderson came off the bench to get 19. Transy had a 38-23 edge on the boards and connected on 12 of 29 three-point goals to eight of 18 for the visitors.
Transy shot 59 percent in the second half to hold off the hard-charging Ravens and finished with 51.8 percent for the game. Anderson was just behind, hitting 58.6 percent in the second half and 50.2 percent for the game.
Riley O'Neal scored all 12 of his points in the final period, including three critical three-pointers.
Transy returns to action on Wednesday, when the Pioneers go on the road to meet Mt. St. Joseph at 7:30 p.m.
