The Falcons outscored the Flying Dutchmen 19-11 in overtime shooting 60 percent during the period from the floor and connecting on 12 of 18 from the foul line to secure the win. Dave Carter (Warrenton, VA) had 21 points including a crucial three-pointer in the overtime for Messiah. Leading by two points just a minute into the overtime, Carter buried a jump shot from the top of the key giving the Falcons a five point lead and taking the steam out of the Dutchmen.
Dave Henninger added to the Messiah excitement contributing a double-double (13 points and 14 rebounds) and by becoming the 20th player in Falcon history to score a 1000 points. Henninger reached the milestone early in the first half when he connected on a jumper from foul line. Zach Wiernicki (Vernon, NY) and Jared Yoder (Lancaster, PA) also helped the cause dropping in 15 points a piece for Messiah.
Brad Stigelman (Millersville, PA) had a double-double for the Dutchmen with 21 points and 11 rebounds and teammates Jimmy Curran (Allentown, PA) and J.D. Byers (Westminster, MD) each had 17 points on the night for LVC who lost for the third time in as many games. LVC shot 42 percent from the floor on the game but just 36 percent in the overtime period. Messiah struggled shooting in the second half connecting on just 29 percent of their attempts but caught fire during the overtime period shooting 60 percent. With the win the Falcons avenge an early season loss to the Dutchmen.
Messiah returns to action next Wednesday when they host the Eagles of Juniata College. That game is scheduled to begin at 8pm and will follow the Messiah vs. Juniata women’s game.
