The Hawks started the game against La Roche College on a 13-1 run, capped by an offensive putback by Allen Leight. The Hawks continued their strong play throughout the first half, and Glen Ufland’s third first-half three-pointer pushed the lead to 50-20 as the first half concluded.
The second half was a completely different story, as the Redhawks turned up the defensive pressure and limited Hilbert to 34.5% shooting from the field. A three-pointer by La Roche’s Carlo Dorazio cut the Hilbert lead to nine with :48 seconds remaining, but that is as close as it would get, as Hilbert held on for the victory.
Gioia led all scorers with 24 points, and added 7 assists. Senior Sean Kenney contributed 18 points and eight rebounds for the victors. Demetrius Pringle and Nate Davis led La Roche with 14 points each.
