Haverford 89, Gettysburg 75

HAVERFORD, Pa. — The frontcourt of senior Mark Gabriel (22 points) and junior Jeremy Bass (18 points, team-high six rebounds) combined to make 17-of-21 shots as host Haverford hit a season-high 60 percent from the field (33-of-55) for the game and won its fifth straight Centennial Conference game.
Junior guards Jason Polykoff and Johnny Elefterakis (school-record 13 assists) joined Bass in making three steals and added 17 and 14 points, respectively, for Haverford (8-9, 7-4). The Fords, who recovered from an early 18-14 deficit to lead for good, 34-28, at the half, committed just two turnovers in the second half and seven for the game. Elefterakis' 13 assists tied Jamal Elliott's baker's dozen against Gallaudet on Nov. 29, 1995.
The Bullets (11-7, 8-3), who defeated Division I Navy earlier this season, were led by senior David Glaser's 21 points. Gettysburg also got 12 points each from guards Mike Spadafora (six assists) and Matt Whelan, plus 10 points and seven rebounds from Erik Fromm.
The win was the Fords' second-ever over Gettysburg in 20 meetings dating back to 1922, and their first since a 55-51 win at Haverford on Dec. 2, 1998. Haverford's five-game league winning streak is its longest since an eight-game skein in 1995-96.
