Nazareth 82, Hartwick 56

ONEONTA, N.Y. — Freshman guard Joe Canori (Webster Thomas/Webster, N.Y.) had 18 points to lead the Nazareth College men’s basketball team to an 82-56 victory over Hartwick College on Saturday at Binder Gymnasium.

Canori made 6-of-11 shots from the floor and connected on 4-of-8 from three-point range. He scored eight points in the first half and helped the Golden Flyers (7-11, 2-5 Empire 8) take a 32-25 lead into halftime.

Nazareth made 7-of-14 three-point field goals and shot 55.9 percent (19-for-34) in the second half to put the game out of reach for the Hawks (2-15, 0-7 Empire 8).

Junior forward Matt Groot (Canandaigua Academy/Canandaigua, N.Y.) had 13 points and six rebounds, and freshman forward Kyle Nelson (Kingston/Port Ewen, N.Y.) finished with 11 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Flyers.

Freshman swingman Greg Betancourt (Northern Highlands/Allendale, N.J.) scored a game-high 21 points on 6-for-11 shooting for Hartwick. He made 3-of-6 from three-point range and hit 6-of-7 free throws.

Junior guard Tim Kindlon (Bethlehem/Delmar, N.Y.) had 10 points and senior center Mike Wawrzonek (South Side/Rockville Centre, N.Y.) added eight. Freshman forwards Eddie McAdoo (LaSalle Institute/Troy, N.Y.) and Sterling Green (Burlington Township/Burlington Township, N.J.) each had seven points and five rebounds.

The Hawks will play host to Hobart College for a non-conference game at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
