Edgewood got off to a slow start after being held without a field goal for the first five minutes of the contest, as the Crusaders jumped out to an early 7-0 lead. John Fahey gave the Eagles their first lead of the contest when his three-point basket midway through the first half put Edgewood on top 14-13.
The Eagles slowly increased the margin to 10, with a 34-24 advantage at halftime. Edgewood kept a double-digit lead the rest of the way thanks to a 9-2 run to begin the second period. Maranatha managed to get to the foul line just four times in the contest, while Edgewood shot 19-of-23 from the free throw line. Edgewood also shot a scorching 55.6 percent from the field in the second half.
Greg Blaska added 13 points and Charlie Averkamp scored 12 for Edgewood. Maranatha was led by 19 point by Jim Bonner followed by 10 points from James Solarek.
Head coach Steve Larson and the Eagles will host Lakeland College on Wednesday, Feb. 2. Tip-off versus the Muskies is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Todd Wehr Edgedome in Madison.
