Capital races its record to 13-5 overall (9-3 OAC) and stays a game behind John Carroll University in second place in the OAC standings.
Otterbein led by as many seven points in the first half, but it was Capital that led 32-27 at halftime.
The Crusaders led by as many as six points in the second half, but the Cardinals had a 67-65 lead when senior forward Scott Hadley nailed a pair of free throws for two of his 24 points with five seconds left in regulation. Johnson would drive to the basket, miss the shot, and a tip-in at the buzzer by senior Jake Beck sent the game into overtime.
Otterbein sophomore DeQuan Owens, who scored a game-high 26 points, returned the favor tossing in a layup with a second left in the first overtime to send the game to a second extra session.
Johnson then scored eight points in double overtime, five of them from the foul line in the game's final 30 seconds to ice the win.
Beck paced Capital with 23 points, senior guard David Kalb had 16 points while freshman Jake Meisler had his first-ever double-double with a season-high 14 points and 10 rebounds.
