Bethany 72, Grove City 67

Bethany, WV — The Bethany College Men’s Basketball team took an early lead and held on throughout, taking an important 72-67 victory over the Grove City Wolverines Saturday.

But winning was never a sure thing. After the Bison’s opening stampede to take a 24-7 advantage midway through the first half, the Wolverines concluded the final 10 minutes with 23-9 margin, going into halftime down 32-30.

Grove City (11-8, 4-1 PAC) never came any closer or managed to take a lead in the second half despite trailing by as little as two points numerous times.

For the game, Matt Drahos led all scorers with 20 points while Scott Mezyk notched 17 points. Mike Drahos scored 14 points to aid in the Bison’s victory.

The Wolverines were led by J.D. Collar’s 15 points. Phil Bushre added 14 points to the cause while Mike Lukcic and Ryan Eller notched 11 apiece.

With the win, Bethany (16-3, 4-1 PAC) take a share of first-place in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference. Up next for the men is a break from conference action as they travel to play Lake Erie Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
