With its win, B-W is now 16-3 overall and 9-3 in the OAC and in second place. With its loss, Marietta is now 2-17 overall and 0-12 in the OAC.
In the first half, the Pioneers jumped out to an early 16-9 lead in the first 5:22 when sophomore center Matthew Rucker hit a short jumper. B-W then went on a 12-0 run to take a 21-16 lead when freshman guard Tyler Sekerak made a layup with 12:45 remaining in the first stanza. The Marietta went on a 12-5 run, capped by a Craig Stewart hit a three-pointer, to lead for the last time at 28-26 11:07 left. B-W then went on a 28-6 run, sparked by eight points from sophomore forward Matt Marks and five points from senior point guard Tom Harrington. B-W also led at halftime, 63-45. In the second half, B-W extended its lead to as many as 30 points at 129-99 with 2:32 remaining when Sekerak scored on a layup.
Sekerak also scored a layup at the 2:57 mark which gave B-W 126 points and surpassed the previous B-W record for points scored in a game. The previous mark was 124 points set against Findlay in 1956-57. B-W also set a school-record for assists in a game with 38. The previous mark was 27.
Joining Thad Davis in double figures were five other players. They were sophomore forward Tori Davis with 20 points and 14 rebounds, senior point guard Tom Harrington and sophomore guard Nick Meyer each had 15 points, freshman guard Brendan Schuler had 10 points and 11 assists and Sekerak had 11 points.
With his 28 points and 15 rebounds today,Thad Davis now has 1,723 career points and 9027 career rebounds and ranks fifth all-time in scoring and fourth in rebounding at B-W.
Marietta was led by sophomore guard Chad Sponseller with a game-high 36 points. As a team, Marietta canned 18-of-53 three-pointers and was one shy of the OAC record of 19 set by Marietta and Wilmington College, both of whom set the mark last year against the Yellow Jackets.
B-W next plays on Wednesday, February 2 when it hosts OAC-rival Heidelberg College in Berea at 7:30 p.m. in the Ursprung Gymnasium.
