Ripon Keeps Rolling, Knocks Off Illinois College
RIPON, Wis. – Karalyn Dehn and Janine Emmer combined for 45 points Friday night to help Ripon College beat Illinois College 74-65 in women’s basketball action.
The victory, Ripon’s sixth straight, improved the Red Hawks to 13-3 on the season and 8-1 in the Midwest Conference. Illinois College fell to 10-6 on the season and 5-4 in conference play.
Illinois College took the lead early in the game Friday night and left the floor at the intermission with an 11-point advantage, 37-26. The Lady Blues continued to hold the lead through the first part of the second half, but a basket by Janine Emmer with 11:34 remaining in the game gave the Red Hawks a 54-53 lead and an advantage they would never relinquish.
Dehn, this week’s MWC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, led the pack with a game-high 23 points. She hit nine of 11 shots from the field. Emmer, a senior All-America candidate, tallied 22 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Amanda Guay added 11 points.
The Red Hawks shot 47 percent (27-57) from the field, 12 percent (1-8) from long range and 73 percent (19-26) from the free-throw line. Ripon had 28 rebounds, 20 assists, one blocked shot and 15 steals.
Courtney Allen led Illinois College in scoring with 19 points. Nikki Bloemer chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds.
The Lady Blues shot 50 percent (27-54) from the field, 36 percent (7-19) from behind the arc and 40 percent (4-10) from the charity stripe. Illinois College had 33 rebounds, 15 assists, two blocked shots and eight steals.
The Red Hawks are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 29, when they host Knox College. The game is set for 2 p.m. at the Storzer Center.
