Lawrence 70, Monmouth 60

APPLETON, Wis. — The Lawrence University men's basketball team overcame a sluggish first half and a second-half rally to beat Monmouth College 70-60 Friday night in a Midwest Conference game at Alexander Gymnasium.

Lawrence, ranked 12th in the D3hoops.com Top 25, got another double-double from Chris Braier. He scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and added four assists and five steals.

Lawrence (12-3, 7-2 MWC) had to battle back from a 10-point first-half deficit to take a 34-33 lead at the half. The Vikings came out hot in the second half and went on a 16-3 run to grab a 50-36 lead.

Monmouth (7-8, 4-5) came back to go on a 10-2 run later in the second half that trimmed Lawrence's lead to 59-53 with 5:09 left. Lawrence countered with a 7-0 run of its own, with Kyle MacGillis scoring five of those points, that gave the Vikings a 66-53 lead with 52 seconds left.

MacGillis finished with 12 points and Matt Osland added 11 for the Vikings.

Loyd Bowen led Monmouth with 14 points, and Jason Murren grabbed 13 rebounds.
