Centre 68, Rose-Hulman 44

DANVILLE, Ky. — Men's basketball downs Rose-Hulman 68-44

The Centre College men's basketball team snapped its four-game losing streak with a 68-44 win over the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Friday, Jan. 28, in Alumni Gymnasium, in Danville, Ky.

Freshman guard Matt Nestheide led the Colonels with 11 points. Sophomore forward Matt Jacobson added 10 points, five rebounds and four assists and junior forward Coy Zerhusen scored eight points and grabbed a gam-high 13 rebounds in the win.

Jason Ludwig was the lone Engineer in double figures. Ludwig scored 11 points and had three rebounds and two steals. Kareem Lee scored seven points and Brennan Dunville added six as the Engineers fall to 10-9 overall and 4-4 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Centre would lead much of the first half. With Rose-Hulman up 12-11 at the 11:19 mark, the Colonels went on a 9-0 run to take a 20-12 lead with just under nine minutes remaining.

Centre would lead the reamainder of the first half and take a 27-19 lead into the intermission. Neither team shot well in the half. The Colonels made only 8 of 33 shots (24.2%), while Rose-Hulman shot only 30.8% (8-26) from the floor.

The Engineers opened the second half making five of their first six shots as part of an 11-2 run to retake the lead 30-29. Centre then went on a 27-5 run, including nine points from Josh Bell to retake the lead 56-35 with 6:12 to play.

Playing without starting center Reggie Magnusson (Reykavik, Iceland), the Colonels outrebounded Rose-Hulman 44-30 and committed only nine turnovers for the game.

Centre shot 56.0% (14-25) in the second half to finish the game making 22 of its 58 attempts (37.9%). The Engineers were held to 34.5% (19-55) for the game.

The Colonels, now 8-1 at home this year, improve to 12-6 overall and 4-4 in SCAC play.

Centre will take a day off and return to action, Sunday, Jan. 30, when they host DePauw University. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. in Alumni Gymnasium, in Danville, Ky.
