“If we don’t rebound, we might as well not get on the bus or the plane,” said head coach Mike Neer. “I’ve had players who have been accused of shooting too much or passing too much, but never one who has rebounded too much.”
All five starters hit double figures for UR. Gabe Perez led all scorers with a career high 24 points, including 8 of 8 from the foul line. Jeff Juron scored 11 points and Brendan McAllister had 11.
Carson Oren led the Spartans (1-5, 5-12) with 19 points. Matt Cannan had 15, and Mason Conrad scored 13.
UR led, 32-25 at halftime, and broke the game open with a 14-1 run over the first 2:22 of the second half to take a 46-26 lead. McAllister hit two 3-point goals in the run.
Case whittled the lead down to nine points four times, the last time on Andrew Impastato’s 3-pointer with 2:04 left (74-65). UR sank 11 of its last 13 free throws, including six by Perez, to wrap up the win.
