Plattsburgh jumped out to a 12-2 lead to open the game, but the Bengals retaliated with a 19-2 run of its own and took a 36-31 advantage into the intermission. Buffalo State built its lead to 59-51 in the second half, before the Cardinals took over down the stretch. Plattsburgh scored 19 points of Bengals’ turnovers and hit 23-of-29 from the free throw line, to overcome 0-for-10 shooting from three-point range.
Curtis Smith led the Cardinals with 18 points, including knocking down 8-of-10 free throws, and had five assists. Kris Gibbs-Smith scored 17 points, and Jelani Simmons had 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Gregg Jones led the Bengals with 20 points. Freshman Dion Mozelle had a career-high 15 points, and Jeremy Konst matched a career-best with nine assists and added five points.
Buffalo State will host SUNYIT tomorrow at 4 p.m.
