The YellowJackets (3-14, 2-12) played a strong first half, forcing 12 turnovers and held a 23-to-17 advantage on the boards and went into halftime with a 39-36 lead. It appeared that if the team could prevent Brandon Weasby from shooting anymore three-pointers (3-of-4 in the first half) the team would be in good shape. Galloway thwarted the plans when he scored 15 of the first 18 points of the second half and finished the game with 30 points, five rebounds, five assists and no turnovers. Weasby chipped in with a couple more three-pointers for 19 points.
LeTourneau out rebounded the Patriots 42-33, just the fourth time all season the Jackets out rebounded their opponents, but the Patriots’ blistering 62 percent shooting in the second half sent LETU home with another loss.
Junior forward Travis Bankett led the Jackets with 17 points and eight rebounds, six of them on the offensive end. Freshman guard Jay Burnett continued his strong play off the bench with a 16-point, 6-rebound performance. Freshman point guard Jonathan Collins added 10 points and three assists, while freshman forward Joe Packard had his best game of the season with six points and a career high nine rebounds to lead the team.
The Jackets struggled shooting throughout the night and finished just 28-of-73 from the floor, 26.7 percent from three-point land and a paltry 9-of-17 from the charity stripe. The Patriots made 32-of-58 field goal attempts and 10-of-18 three-point attempts. The only place they shot the ball poorly was at the foul line where they went 6-of-13.
The Jackets are back on the road again Saturday afternoon with a game at University of Texas at Dallas at three o’clock. The game can be heard online at www.tsrnsports.com.
