In a game of two halves, MIC recovered from a two-point deficit at the break to shoot 46 percent as a team in the final 20 minutes. The Beacons opened the game with a 16-3 run, thanks to eight points from Kristin Reske, inside the game’s first five minutes and led by 12 with 8:42 left in the half which Mount Ida countered with a 14-2 run of their own that knotted the score at 30 on Bobbi Jo Taft’s coast-to-coast layup with a 1:32 remaining.
Early in the second, MIC pulled ahead, 39-35, on Kristin Santos’ four-point play which consisted of a made 3-point field goal and free-throw attempt. The two teams answered each other and the fourth and final tie of the game occurred at the 11:04 mark before the Mustangs broke the game open, finishing strong for the 69-62 victory.
For MIC, Santos shot 8-for-16 with four three-pointers and six made free throws. Sophomore forward Adrienne Xenos had 16 points and seven rebounds while freshman Maggie Bramswig tossed in 14 points, including six made free throws. Sarah Tuff contributed 10 rebounds.
Kristen Reske paced UMass-Boston, converting three 3-pointers en route to 15 points, and Lydia Coverdale dished out 11 assists.
MIC travels to Johnson State College, Saturday, Jan. 29. Game time is 1 p.m.
