Fitchburg State 94, Massachusetts College 84

North Adams, MA — Rashad Cope (Roxbury/Snowden) scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Fitchburg State defeated host MCLA 94-84 in MASCAC men’s basketball action Thursday night. The Falcons shot a conference season-best 62.3% (33 for 53) from the floor while snapping a five game losing skid.

Fitchburg State (3-14, 1-4) received strong efforts from a pair of freshman point guards. Matt Collins (Southington, CT) came off the bench to score a career-high 18 points while Brian Skiffington (North Adams/Hoosic Valley) had a successful homecoming by tallying 15 points and 4 assists. Classmate Brian Torres (North Dighton/Dighton-Rehoboth) added 10 points for the Green and Gold.

MCLA (6-9, 0-5) had four players in double digits paced by Adam Garner (North Adams/Drury) who ended the night with 20 points. Robert Mitchell (Brooklyn, NY/Central) added 18 points for the Trailblazers while Thad Broughton (Peabody/St. Mary’s) and JP Quintal (Queensbury, NY) registered 16 and 15 points respectively.

Both squads return to action on Saturday afternoon when Fitchburg State entertains Bridgewater State and MCLA hosts Westfield State.
