The Yellow Jackets (11-7/9-3 ODAC) led 30-29 at the half, and opened a 40-33 lead after back-to-back three-pointers by Gill. Lynchburg rattled off 11 straight points, capped by a lay-up and a three-pointer from senior guard Todd Crown (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) to take a 44-40 lead at the 12:27 mark. Randolph-Macon rallied to go ahead 51-50, and back-to-back three pointers from Philip Hawley and Gill gave the Jackets a seven-point cushion with just over four minutes to play. R-MC scored 10 of their last 12 points from the free-throw line to seal the victory.
Sophomore guard Pete Manos, Jr. (Fort Lauderdale, FL/Avon Old Farms) scored a team-high 16 points, while senior forward Ryan Pehanick (Charlottesville, Va/Albemarle) added 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Junior Andy Albright (Hudson, OH/Hudson) had nine points, five steals, four assists and four rebounds for LC.
Gill hit five of his seven three-point attempts for Randolph-Macon. Justin Wansley posted 14 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks and three assists, while Justin Moyer added 14 points and four assists. Adam Krovic scored 10 points. R-MC held LC to 36 percent (20-55) shooting from the floor, while the Yellow Jackets hit 54 percent (22-41) of their shots.
The Hornets (9-9/6-5 ODAC) travel to eastern Mennonite University Saturday for another conference contest at 7 p.m.
