MADISON, NJ – The College at Florham Devils were beaten by the King’s Monarchs 77-62. FDU drops to 7-9 overall and 2-4 in the Freedom. King’s improves to 13-4 overall and 4-2 in the Freedom.
The Devils were within seven points with 4:05 left to play in the first half, trailing 33-26, but King’s finished the half on an 11-0 run to take a 44-26 halftime lead.
The Devils trailed by as much as 24 points with 15:53 left to play, 56-32. FDU cut the King’s lead to as little as 13 when sophomore guard Cody Chalmers (Middletown, NJ) knocked down a three-pointer with 7:58 left in the game.
King’s, however came back with a quick 4-0 run to build their lead back up to 17 points and turn back the Devils.
For FDU, senior center Chris Hendershot (Vernon, NJ) and sophomore forward Pierre Schmitt (Park Ridge, NJ) each had 15 points. Hendershot added nine rebounds. Senior forward Jeff Hemschoot (Little Silver, NJ) added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
For King’s Vince Scalzo had a team-high 14 points and grabbed six rebounds. Landon Gabriel added 11 markers and three assists. John Soboleski chipped in 12 points.
King’s was helped by their three-point shooting. On the night, the shot 45.8 percent (11-for-24). In the first half, they shot 9-for-15 on threes to build a 44-26 halftime lead.
The Devils will be back in action on Saturday as they host Scranton for a 3:00 pm Freedom Conference game.
