The Colonials, 13-2 and 5-2 in the Little East Conference received another outstanding performance from senior forward Brice Assie (Bridgeport, CT), who matched his career high with 33 points. He canned 12 of 15 shot attempts from the floor. He also collected eight rebounds and had two steals. Assie needs jut seven points to become the Colonials’ 23rd 1,000 point scorer.
Senior guard Greg Cole (Terrytown, NY) continued his hot shooting with 16 points including four three pointers for the Colonials.
Kimani Crawford (West Hartford, CT) finished with 12 points and sank six free throws down the stretch.
WestConn scored the final eight points including a thrilling dunk by Greg Cole inside of 10 seconds.
Rhode Island College, now11-6 overall and 5-3 in the LEC, were headed by Andre Daley (Boston, MA) who had 26 points. Kamari Williams (Springfield, MA) and Kinsey Durgin (Greenwood, ME) added 15 and 14 points, respectively.
After falling behind 10-2 in the opening minutes, RIC went on a 9-0 run to take an 11-10 advantage. At 12:28 of the first half, the Anchormen held their biggest lead of the game, 16-14.
WestConn went on a 15-2 run to take an 11-point lead, 29-18 with 9:09 remaining in the first stanza. Its lead grew to as many as 19 points in the second half on a three pointer by Cole with 4:29 left in the game.
Jay Reginatto (Torrington, CT) added 11 points for WestConn.
The Colonials travel to Green Mountain College on Thursday for a non-conference game at 7 p.m.
