Maryville (Mo.) 68, Principia 65

ELSAH, Ill. — Maryville University junior Matt Regan recorded his second consecutive double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Saints men's basketball team to a 68-65 victory over Principia College (IL). Maryville improves to 8-9 overall and 5-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) with the win, while Principa falls to 6-8 on the season and 3-3 in conference play.
The Saints were outrebounded and committed six more turnovers than the Panthers, but in the end Maryville sank four more three-point shots and hit 20-of-29 (.689) from the charity stripe to pull off the three-point victory. Principia shot 84.6 percent from the free-throw line, but only managed to make 13 trips total for the game. The Panthers also shot only 17.4 percent (4-of-23) from behind the arc.
In addition to his 17 points and 10 rebounds, Regan dished out three assists and tallied six steals and one block in the winning effort. Senior Marcus Henderson also played well with 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals, while senior Andrew Hulbert recorded 11 points and finished a perfect 8-of-8 (1.000) from the charity stripe.
Junior Ben Hebl and sophomore Jason Rezabek also scored in double figures for the Saints with 10 points a piece.
Principia's Tucker Fendon recorded the triple-double with 15 points, 11 steals and 10 rebounds, while teammate Sam Gilman had a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. The Panthers' James Aimonetti also contributed with 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals.
Maryville head coach Matt Rogers and his squad will be back in action this Saturday, January 29, when they host the Gorlocks of Webster University in a 3:00 pm battle for first place in the SLIAC.
