Babson 99, Mount Ida 67

BABSON PARK, Mass. — Babson College scored 66 points in the first half on its way to an easy 99-67 victory over visiting Mount Ida College in a non--conference men’s basketball contest on Tuesday night. The win snapped a three-game slide for the Beavers (7-10), while the Mustangs fell to 4-11.

Babson dominated play from the outset, as the Beavers began the contest with a 25-8 run. Mount Ida would eventually cut the deficit to as little as seven, 26-19, with 11 minutes remaining in the period, but Babson scored the final 17 points of the half to take a commanding 66-34 lead at the break. The home team shot 62.2 percent from the field in the opening session, including a 53.8 percent clip from three-point range. Mount Ida would never threaten in the second half, as Babson cruised to the 99-67 win.

Five different players scored in double figures for the Beavers, led by senior tri-captain Dan Elliman (Tewksbury, Mass.) with 18. Senior CJ Enere (Hyde Park, Mass.) scored 17 points and dished out seven assists, and senior tri-captain Phil Riffe (Newton, Mass.) added 16 points. Sophomores Brandon Eigenberg (Franklin, Mass.) and Rory Caslin (Dartmouth, Mass.) also hit double digits with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Senior Geoff Ponitz (Oakland, Maine) was the team’s high rebounder with eight.

Mount Ida was led by junior Scott Chamberlain (Millis, Mass.), who scored 22 points, and first-year Pat Escabi (Derry, N.H.), who added 17 points.
