Salisbury (8-9, 3-3 CAC) built a ten point lead in the first half only to watch the Seahawks come storming back and take a four point lead at halftime, 32-28. That would prove to be all the margin the Seahawks would need in the contest, as the two squads played to a 38-38 tie in the second half.
Salisbury trailed by three points with 46 seconds remaining and turned the ball over. The play results in the Sea Gulls fouling the rest of the way and hoping that the Seahawks would not convert on the foul shots. St. Mary's rose to the challenge and connected on all ten free throws in the final 37 seconds to seal the win.
For Salisbury, senior forward/center Matt Fohner led all players with 15 points and ten rebounds in the game. Junior guard Justin Rice and sophomore guard Segun Odumeru each added 12 points, while guard Ray Williams added 11 points. Sophomore forward Rico Stewart was the fifth Sea Gull to reach double figures by scoring ten points in the contest with seven rebounds and a game-high four assists before fouling out with 2:49 remaining.
For the Seahawks, freshman guard Ryan Junghans scored 14 points with five rebounds. Freshman guard T. J. Jordan and senior forward John Dewey each added 13 points apiece in the contest, with Jordan claiming eight rebounds and Dewey seven. Senior forward Jeffrey Turner and sophomore guard Dan Engelstad each added nine points in the victory.
The Seahawks (7-9, 3-3 CAC) will return to action on Wednesday, January 26, when they travel to Goucher College for a CAC contest. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. following the conclusion of the women's contest.
