JERSEY CITY, NJ — MCNAIR SCORES 23 AS NJCU MOVES ABOVE .500, POUNDS CCNY, 55-36

Sophomore point guard LATRESE McNAIR (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) scored a career-high 23 points on 11-of-16 shooting, and junior guard/forward BERNICE AMADEO (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) notched seven assists and seven rebounds, as New Jersey City University never trailed, and easily defeated City College of New York, 55-36, Monday evening at the John J. Moore Athletic and Fitness Center.

NJCU (8-7) won its third consecutive game to move above .500 for the first time since the first week of the season. CCNY (3-15) lost its fourth straight game.

NJCU owned a 14-0 margin in fast-break points, 23-6 in scoring off turnovers, and 28-8 in the paint. McNair, the recipient of five of Amadeo’s seven assists, scored 12 of the Gothic Knights’ 14 fast-break points.

McNair, who ranks No. 5 in Division III in steals, swiped five, to go along with her 23 points and three assists. Her previous high was 19 at St. Joseph’s College (LI) on December 13, 2003.

Amadeo, NJCU’s all-time leader in assists, added five points to go with her seven helpers and seven boards. Freshman center TIFFANY BOYD (Jersey City, NJ/Lincoln) had eight points and seven defensive rebounds in 10 reserve minutes. Freshman point guard TALIAH CHAMBERS (Orange, NJ/Orange) grabbed seven rebounds and matched her career-high with six assists.

Senior forward ANCLIN PEREZ (Brooklyn, NY/Bushwick) was the Beavers’ only player in double figures. She finished with a double-double, while tallying 16 points and a game-best 10 rebounds (eight defensive). She hit 10-of-16 from the line, but only 3-of-18 field goals.

McNair scored 13 of NJCU’s 24 first half points, including six on the fast-break as NJCU held an 8-0 edge in transition points, and 12-0 off turnovers during the period, in building a 24-12 halftime lead. CCNY did not score a field goal in the final 16:31 of the first half, and shot just .176 for the period (3-17). NJCU turned an 11-9 game with 13:51 on the clock into an 11-1 run en route to moving in front, 22-10.

Overall, NJCU shot .365 (23-63), and had a 2-to-1 margin in steals (18-9), as CCNY committed 26 turnovers. The Beavers shot .222 for the game (10-45) and .571 from the line (16-28).
