Randolph-Macon 74, Washington and Lee 42

LEXINGTON, Va. — Junior forward Justin Wansley (Richmond, VA/Henrico) led all scorers and rebounders with 14 points and 11 rebounds, to help the visiting Randolph-Macon College men’s basketball team to a 74-42 win over Washington and Lee University in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game on Sunday, January 23. Wansley made 8-of-10 (80.0%) foul shot attempts. Also for the Yellow Jackets, sophomore forward Philip Hawley (Weirton, WV/Tri-State Christian Academy) totaled 12 points, nine rebounds, and a career and game-high three blocked shots. He shot 6-for-7 (85.7%) from the floor.

The victory makes the Yellow Jackets 10-7 overall and 8-3 in the ODAC. The Generals fall to 2-16 on the season, and at 0-11 are still looking for their first conference win.

After an early tie at 4-4, a layup by Hawley, assisted by junior guard Patrick Gill (Richmond, VA/Benedictine School), put Randolph-Macon ahead for good. In the first half, the biggest lead for the Yellow Jackets was 19 points, 31-12, with almost two minutes remaining before halftime. The advantage at the break was 15 points, 35-20.

Washington and Lee would reduce the deficit to 12 points, 39-27, four minutes into the second period. But that was as close as the Generals would get. The lead was never below 20 points for the final ten minutes, and the biggest margin was 32 points – the final score of 75-42.

Following the performances by Wansley and Hawley, five Randolph-Macon players scored six points each: Gill, senior guard Justin Moyer (Landisville, PA/Hempfield), Gill, freshman forward Jeremy Dixon (Manheim, PA/Hempfield), freshman guard Brett Foelber (Sykesville, MD/Cardinal Gibbons), and freshman center Andrew Baker (Sparta, NJ/Sparta). Moyer and Dixon, freshman center Andrew Baker. Moyer and Dixon both shot 3-for-4 (75.0%) from the floor, while Gill was 2-for-3 (66.7%) overall, making both of his three-point field goal attempts.

Washington and Lee was led by junior forward David Will (Fairfax, VA/Fairfax), with nine points and six rebounds. Freshman forward Femi Kusimo (Charleston, WV/Charleston Catholic) and freshman guard Andrew Franklin (Katy, TX/Katy) each scored eight points.
