Rochester 64, Chicago 52

ROCHESTER, NY — Guards Jeff Juron (Niskayuna, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and Gabe Perez (Corpus Christi, TX/Calallen) combined for 28 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and four steals to lead the University of Rochester to a 64-52 win over the University of Chicago at the Louis Alexander Palestra here today.

Juron scored 15 points, had eight rebounds, and two steals. Perez produced 13 points, six assists and two steals.

Rochester (13-3 overall) moved into a first place tie in the University Athletic Association standings with Carnegie Mellon. Both teams are 4-1 in the league. Carnegie lost at home to Washington (MO), 93-83.

Chicago is 7-9 overall, 3-2 in the league. The Maroons are tied for third place with Brandeis. Brandon Woodhead (Lincoln, NE/East) led the Maroons with 16 points. Justin Waldie (Mercer Island, WA/Mercer Island) had 15 points and seven rebounds.

UR led by as much as 12, 19-7, midway through the first half. Woodhead scored five points to fuel an 11-2 run that pulled Chicago within 21-18 on Waldie’s 3-point goal with 5:45 left in the first half. UR opened its lead to 10 and settled for a 31-24 lead at the half.

With Chicago within five, 38-33, UR went on a 12-0 run to take a 50-33 lead midway through the second half. Juron made a conventional three-point play. Brendan McAllister (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) and Ryan Mee (Hilton, NY/Hilton) hit 3-point goals.

The Maroons cut it below double figures in the last 95 seconds. Waldie’s layup and free throw brought UC within 58-52 with 47 seconds left. Juron scored on a breakaway pass from Mee, then Tim Brackney (Columbia, MD/Archbishop Spaulding) and Mee each sank two free throws to clinch it.
