HAVERFORD, Pa. — Junior Jeremy Bass missed just two of 14 shots from the floor en route to 31 points and senior Mark Gabriel added 29 points and six steals as host Haverford defeated Centennial Conference foe F&M for the first time since 1976-77.
Senior Mike Kelly (11 points) and junior Johnny Elefterakis (10 assists) both hit three three-pointers for the Fords (6-8, 5-4), who led by 10 in each half and never trailed after one-point deficits midway through the first half.
Junior Brandon Smith had team-highs of 23 points, nine rebounds and three steals for the Diplomats (11-5, 6-3), who had won 27 in a row over Haverford since a 70-68 loss in the 1977 Middle Atlantic Conference Southern Division semifinals.
The Fords' win over F&M was their first in the regular season, or at Alumni Field House, since the 1968-69 season (68-67) and their largest margin of victory over the Dips since a 69-57 at Haverford in 1964-65.
