UW-Stevens Point 63, UW-La Crosse 62

La Crosse, WI — The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team fell 63-62 in overtime to UW-Stevens Point Saturday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles drop to 5-13 overall and 2-7 in the WIAC while the Pointers improve to 16-1 overall and 8-1 in the conference. UW-Stevens Point earned its seventh straight win over UW-L.

The Eagles led by as many as nine in the first half, including 27-18 with 7:13 remaining. The Pointers finished the half on a 11-3 run and UW-L led 30-29 at intermission. UW-Stevens Point, ranked first on D3hoops.com, led by six in the second half 40-34 at 13:54 left before UW-L went on a 7-0 run to lead 41-40 with 11:19 remaining. The Pointers led 50-45 with 5:41 left, but the Eagles cut the margin to 53-52 on Chris Fehrenbach's three-point attempt. After a pair of free throws by the Pointers' Eric Maus made it 55-52 with :30 left, the Eagles' Josh Hall hit a lay-up with :12 remaining and was fouled on the play. Hall converted on the free throw to tie the game. UW-Stevens Point's Jason Kalsow missed with :02 left and Nick Bennett's put-back came after the horn.

UW-L led 62-57 with 1:19 left after Hall hit a three-pointer and Chris Ask made a jumper. Bennett cut the lead to 62-60 with 1:01 left on a three-pointer and Kalsow gave UW-Stevens Point the lead on a three with :06 remaining. UW-L's Timothy Owen missed a shot at the buzzer and the Pointers' came away with the win.

Bennett (23) and Kalsow (22) combined for 45 of UW-Stevens Point's 63 points. Kalsow added eight rebounds, eight assists and three blocks. The Pointers shot 44.7% from the field, including hitting all three of their attempts in overtime. UW-Stevens Point finished nine-of-21 (42.9%) from three-point range and 12-of-16 (75.0%) at the line.

Fehrenbach led UW-L with a career-high 20 points, hitting six-of-13 three-point field goals. Owen added 12 points and seven rebounds while Ask finished with 10 points. Joe Werner had a game-high 11 rebounds for UW-L. The Eagles shot 38.2% from the field, including 42.3% (11-of-26) from three-point range. The 11 three-point fields made and 26 attempted were both season-highs. UW-L was nine-of-11 (81.8%) at the line.
