Thiel (4-13, 0-3) scored the first six points of the contest, fueled by a pair of lay ins from freshman forward Max Slater (Warren, Ohio/Southington-Chalker), before the Yellow Jackets (8-9, 2-1) were able to go up three (15-12) at the 10:50 mark of the period one.
Junior forward Stephen Laird converted a three-point play with 9:08 to play to give Thiel a 17-15 lead, but Waynesburg exploded on an 18-0 run over the next 4:54 to run their lead to 16 (33-17) with 4:14 to go in the opening half. Each squad scored 11 in the remaining 4:14 and Waynesburg went into the break leading by 16 (44-28).
Thiel outscored Waynesburg 14-7 over the first 5:09 of the second half and cut the Yellow Jacket lead to nine (51-42), but Waynesburg used a 11-1 run to push its lead to 19 (62-43) with just under 12 minutes to play.
Josh Parisi finished with a game-high 22 points to pace the Yellow Jacket offense. Beau Wilson added 14 while Mark Lodovico and Ryan Bujnowski chipped in with 11 and 10, respectively.
Senior guard Daryl Moore led the Tomcats with his 18-point, seven assist, six rebound effort. Freshman guard Ross Watson added 13 points and six boards.
Thiel will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 26 when they hit the road to take on PAC foe Grove City College. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
