Mississippi College 68, Texas-Tyler 67

TYLER, TX — Freshman forward Tyler Winford hit the game-winning free throw with three seconds remaining to lift Mississippi College to a 68-67 win at the University of Texas-Tyler Saturday afternoon.

The win was the seventh straight for the Choctaws who improved to 14-2, 12-2 in the ASC. UTT fell to 5-10, 5-7 in ASC play.

UTT erased a five point deficit in the game's final few minutes and tied the score at 67-67 when Michael Galloway made a shot with 16 seconds remaining.

The Choctaws fell behind early and trailed 29-19 but outscored UTT 17-4 in the final five minutes of the first half to take a 36-33 halftime lead.

Winford was the high scorer for MC with 12 poitns on 5-12 shooting. Cedric Armstrong also finished in double figures with eleven points.

The Patriots were led by Patrick Branche's 19 points and eleven rebounds. Branche was good on 8-14 shots and had three steals. Brandon Weasby added 17 points and Galloway 14.

The Patriots shot 56 percent from the field in the loss and made 32 trips to the free throw line making 24.

The Choctaws were good on 9-11 free throws and shot just 42 percent from the field, but forced 25 Patriot turnovers.
