Rhode Island College 93, Plymouth State 80

PROVIDENCE, RI. — Rhode Island College earned a dramatic, come-from-behind, 93-80, win over Plymouth State University in collegiate men’s basketball action. The Anchormen, who trailed by as much as 18 points in the first half, chipped away at PSU for most of the second half until finally taking lead with 5:35 remaining in the game. RIC went on a 21-7 tear to close out the contest to pick up the victory.

RIC improved its record to 11-5 overall and 5-2 in the Little East. With the loss, PSU falls to 11-5 overall and 5-2 in the LEC. RIC and PSU are now tied for first place in the conference.

RIC senior guard Andre Daley (Boston, MA) put the Anchormen on his back, making key baskets to keep RIC in striking distance throughout the first half. He totaled 30 points, four rebounds, six steals and two assists in the win. Sophomore forward John Weir (Danbury, CT) had a career-high 18 points and ten boards to go along with three blocks. Junior guard Kevin Payette (Woonsocket, RI) had 16 points, four rebounds and made three key steals.

PSU senior guard Nick Pelotte (Bingham, ME) registered a game-high 38 points with nine boards and four assists to pace the Panthers. Sophomore forward Andreas Pope (Brooklyn, NY) had 17 points and 11 boards.

In upcoming action, RIC will play at Western Connecticut on Tuesday, Jan. 25.
