Sophomore guard Mike Lee scored a game-high 37 points, including six three pointers, a category in which he leads the nation, at 4.5 per game. Sophomore point guard A.J. Fitzgerald scored 17 points, including a key three pointer with 51 seconds left, and Pierce and fellow freshman Justin Baker each scored ten for UMW, who improves to 12-5 overall, and 4-2 in CAC play. The Eagles are 6-0 at home this season.
After Mary Washington grabbed the early lead and led by as many as ten in the first half, York trimmed the lead to seven at halftime (43-36) and led by several points for much of the second half. But Fitzgerald's clutch trey from the right wing, followed by Pierce's floater, gave UMW the lead and the victory.
The Eagles will visit Marymount University on Wednesday at 8 pm as part of a doubleheader with the UMW women. The games will be broadcast live on the UMW athletics website.
