CARLISLE, Pa — The Dickinson College men's basketball team led or was tied for all but 59 seconds in the second half, but Johns Hopkins finished on top 58-57 behind a three-pointer from sophomore guard TJ Valerio with just eight seconds remaining in the game.

Junior guard Brad Litchfield hit a pair of free throws with 20 seconds on the clock to put the Devils in front 57-55. Following a Blue Jay timeout, senior Eric Toback found Valerio at the top of the key for the game-winner. Dickinson had one final opportunity, but junior guard Matt Keys' three-pointer was just off the mark at the buzzer.

The Devils opened the game with a 7-0 run and led by six later in the half, taking a 29-27 lead into the break. Dickinson stretched the margin to nine, its biggest lead of the game at the 15:14 mark on a back-to-back three pointers from Jimmy Martelli and Keys.

Hopkins pulled within one at 9:24 and stayed within four over the final eight minutes. Valerio tied the game at 53-53 with just under four minutes to play. No one scored for the next 2:54 until Keys hit a jumper to give Dickinson a 55-53 edge. Toback answered with a pair of free throws at the 48 second mark before Litchfield went to line and hit two of only three free throw attempts for the Devils in the game.

Sophomore Matt Griffin went 7-for-10 from the field and 8-of-11 from the line for a game-high 22 points to lead Johns Hopkins (10-5, 7-2). Toback added 13 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Litchfield led the Devils with 16 points and eight rebounds. Keys finished with 12 while Jon Skvarka (Bradford, PA/Bradford) chipped in with 10 points, two assists and a pair of steals.

The Red Devils are home again on Wednesday, hosting Gettysburg College at 8:00 pm.
