Spartans end seven-game losing streak with a desperation shot.
Ross King grabbed a loose ball, heaved an off-balance three-point shot from the top of the circle that banked in off the backboard as time expired, giving D’Youville a 67-66 victory over Penn St.-Berks. King finished with a game-high 25 points.
The win ends a seven-game losing streak for D’Youville (5-12, 2-6 NEAC). Penn St. Berks falls to 2-8 overall, and 2-4 in NEAC play.
D’Youville finished the game with three other players in double figures: Kyle Ward with 14 points, Albert Gulledge with 10 points, and Justin Cooke with 11 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
The Nittany Lions battled back from what seemed a lost cause in the second half. After D’Youville widened their lead to thirteen points with 15:15 remaining in the contest, PSU-Berks responded with a twelve-minute offensive surge and outscored the Spartans 29-14, to take the lead for the first time since the contest’s early stages.
Three-point shooting brought the Lions to within closing distance, as they connected on 8 of 13 (62%) from behind the arc. Matt Sowers led the charge, making five triples in the second stanza (on seven shots, 71%), and finished the game with 16 points. Curtis Geiger scored 17 points, followed by Travis Miller with 13 points.
