Baldwin-Wallace 59, Wilmington 58

BEREA, Ohio — Senior forward Thad Davis tipped in a missed free throw with 2.46 seconds left in the game (Saturday, January 22, 2005) as the 19th-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College men’s basketball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Wilmington College, 59-58, at the Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea. The win was B-W’s third straight and ninth in its last 10 games.

Thad Davis led B-W with 12 points and 10 rebounds for his 15th double-double in 17 games this year. With its win, B-W is now 14-3 overall and 7-3 in the OAC. With its loss, Wilmington is now 8-8 overall and 4-5 in the OAC.


In the first half, B-W led by as many as nine points at 17-8 at the 11:14 mark when sophomore forward Chad Clark scored on a layup. The Quakers then went on a 10-0 run that was capped when junior forward Eric Stirling canned a jump shot with 7:54 remaining to give Wilmington an 18-17 advantage. The Yellow Jackets then outscored the Quakers 7-2 to lead at halftime, 24-20.


In the second half, B-W led by as many as seven points,40-33, when senior point guard Tom Harrington hit a jump shot with 10:16 left in the game. Wilmington then outscored B-W 24-15 and took its first lead of the second stanza at 57-55 with 1:16 remaining when freshman guard Zach Broermann made the back end of a pair of free throws. Then Stirling put the Quakers up by three points, 58-55, when he also made one of two free throws with 17 seconds left. On B-W's next possession, Harrington found a wide open Tori Davis who scored on a layup and was also fouled on the play. With the score at 58-57 with 2.46 seconds remaining, Tori Davis missed the free throw and Thad Davis tipped it in to give B-W the win.

In addition to Thad Davis, Tori scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Harrington also scored in double figures with 12 marker.

With his 12 points and 10 rebounds tonight, Thad Davis now has 1,676 career points and 870 career rebounds and ranks fifth all-time in scoring and fourth in rebounding at B-W.

Wilmington was led by Stirling who scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds and Broermann added 15.

B-W next plays on Wednesday, January 26 when it travels to University Heights for a showdown with first place and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University at 7:30 p.m. at the DeCarlo Varsity Center.
