Bard 80, SUNY-Maritime 60

Throggs Neck, NY — Throggs Neck, NY – Senior point guard Gary Browne (Blauvelt, NY/Tappan Zee) and junior center Robert Benton (Montgomery, AL/G.W. Carver) each scored seventeen points and each had seven rebounds, but they Privateers were outscored by the Raptors of Bard College 80-60 Friday night in men’s basketball action in Throggs Neck.

The Raptors were just on fire for a majority of the game, going on a 16-2 run and took a lead that the Privateers were never able to relinquish. The Privateers were down 17 points after one half of play, yet they still played hard in the second half, getting a nice contribution out of freshman guard Nikero Barbes (Freeport, Bahamas/Ingelican) who scored a career high ten points in just seventeen minutes of play.

Junior forward Adam Turner (New York, NY/Westfield) led the way for the Raptors with 28 points and ten rebounds shooting 73 percent fro the field. Bard had three other in double figures with junior guard Colin Orcutt (Thomaston, ME/Hebron Academy) the second highest at 18 points and several baskets towards the end of the game that just killed the Privateers chance at a late half run.

Maritime now drops to 2-13 on the year, and will have a couple of days off until they travel to Long Island on Tuesday to take on the Skyline Conference number one ranked team Farmingdale State. In their last meeting earlier this season, the Privateers fell to the Rams in overtime.
