Bates 86, Middlebury 66

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- — The Bates College men’s basketball team won its third straight conference game Friday, beating Middlebury, 86-66. Brian Gerrity ’05 (Augusta, Maine) paced the Bobcats with a game-high 20 points, shooting 7-for-11 with 17 points in the first half.

The Bobcats are now 13-4 (3-0 NESCAC). Middlebury dropped to 5-10 (1-2 NESCAC).

Zak Ray ’07 (Bangor, Maine) finished with 17 points for Bates, while Rob Stockwell ’07 (Temple, N.H.) scored 15. The Bobcats opened an early 19-9 lead and were up 46-28 at halftime. In the second, Bates’ lead grew to as many as 24 points, with Middlebury cutting it down to 15 and 14 at the 8:52 and 3:51 marks.

Clark Read ’05 (Pepper Pike, Ohio) scored a team-high 15 for Middlebury, while Adam Sinoway ’05 (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Bobby Marcoux ’07 (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) scored 12 and 10, respectively.

Bates travels to Williams Saturday for a 3 p.m. start. Middlebury hosts Tufts at 3 p.m.
