Texas Lutheran 69, Sul Ross State 62

ALPINE, Texas — Bulldogs Stifle Lobo Comeback

01/20/05- Texas Lutheran came to the Gallego Center Thursday with 10-4 and 9-2 marks. They left with an 11-4 season and 10-2 ASC record after a 69-62 ASC win over Sul Ross.

The loss is the Lobos’ fourth consecutive and first home loss for 2004-2005 dropping Sully to 10-5 and 8-5.

Matt Nelson led the Bulldog charge with 14 points followed by Tommy Stolhandske’s 13 and Nik Summer’s 14 points.

The Bulldogs had a slim 30-27 halftime lead before coming out in the second half shooting 52% from the floor (46% from long range) while hitting 57% from the free throw line. Sul Ross ran near neck-and-neck with TLU in the second half shooting 50% from the floor (57% from 3-point distance) and shooting 68% from the charity stripe.

Derric Workman (Odessa) led Sully with 15 points followed by Arturo Escobar’s twelve. Rockland Owens (Wharton) had team-leading honors at the boards with 6 rebounds.

The Lobos will square off with Schreiner this Saturday in a 3:00 p.m. contest at the Gallego Center.
