Hardin-Simmons 90, Concordia-Austin 87

AUSTIN, Texas — Hardin-Simmons’ men’s basketball team won its sixth straight game for the first time in five years as Calvin Nite scored 24 of his 29 points in the second half and the Cowboys toppled Concordia, 90-87, in American Southwest Conference action over Concordia-Austin, Thursday in Austin.

Nite was unstoppable in the second half, fueling the Cowboys to a 69 percent effort from the field in the second half to overcome a 43-41 halftime deficit. Zach Pickelman added 25 points and James Peters had 14.

CUA led by as many as 12 points in the first half, but the Cowboys responded to take the lead late in the first half.

Keith Darden had 13 points in the first six minutes of the game, but cooled to finish with 23 and a game-high 13 rebounds. The Tornados hit three 3-pointers in the last minute to cut a 10-point Cowboy lead.

Hardin-Simmons is now 11-4 on the year and 9-3 in ASC play. Concordia is now 3-12 and 3-9 in league action. HSU plays at Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday at 3 p.m.
