In non-conference action, Clark University cruised to an 80-64 win over Nichols College. The Cougars built an 11-point lead out scoring the Bison 18-7 in the first six minutes of the game and led by as many as 17 with less than 10 minutes to play in the first half. A lay-up by sophomore Mischa Tripoli (N. Falmouth, MA/Northfield Mt. Herman) pushed the Cougars’ lead to 42-22 with 3:48 to play and Clark entered the break leading by 16 points. Nichols cut the lead to nine points with 13:16 left in the game but the Cougars went on an 18-11 run over the next six minutes to lead by 16 with less than seven minutes. The Cougars led by as many as 22-points with 4:36 to go in the game and cruised to convincing 16-point victory. Junior Tim Dutille (Sunapee, NH/Lebanon) and sophomore Cory Szklarz (Worcester, MA/St. Peter Marian) led a balanced attack with 14 points each for the Cougars, who had 11 players contribute to the offense. First-year Justin Lewis (Hopedale, MA/Hopedale) had a game-high 22 points for the Bison on 7-for-13 from the field. He was 2-for-3 from long range. Senior Anthony Smith (Dove, NJ/Dean) chipped in 11 points and four steals for Nichols, who fell to 4-8. Graduate student Adam Miller (Shrewsbury, MA/St. John’s) again dominated the glass with a game-high 18 rebounds while chipping in nine points. Clark’s sophomore Asher Cowan (Petersborough, NH/Cushing Academy) rounded out the double-digit scoring with 11 points including three three-pointers. Tripoli ended the game with seven points on 2-for-2 from the field and 3-for-4 from the line while grabbing four rebounds. Clark improved to 5-10 overall and will travel to Springfield College on Saturday, January 22 for a 1:00 pm start.
