Thiel (4-12, 0-2) shot a season-best 53.2 percent (41-77) from the floor but was unable to answer Westminster (11-5, 1-1) from three-point land as the Titans poured in a school-record 26 triples.
The squads battled through four early ties before Westminster used a 20-3 run to go up 20 (59-39) with 2:37 to play before the half. The Titans knocked down four three-pointers during the scoring run and took a 72-50 lead into the break.
The Tomcats were able to cut considerably into the Titan lead with their 26-7 run over the first 8:03 of the second period that cut the Westminster lead to three (79-76), but three straight Titan triples helped stretch the home team's lead to 13 (94-81) at the 9:28 mark.
Sophomore guard Brad Bowman and freshman forward Joe Herrmann each registered career highs for the Tomcats in both points and rebounds. Bowman posted 25 points and 11 rebounds while Herrmann went for 23 and grabbed 15 boards. Junior forward Stephen Laird added 13 points in the loss.
Mark DeMonaco had 28 to pace the Titans while Pat O' Connor and Nick DiNatale each added 24, respectively.
The Tomcats return to the hardwood on Saturday, Jan. 21 as they host PAC rival Waynesburg College. Tip off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
