Haverford 92, Washington College 80

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Visiting Haverford College defeated host Washington College, 92-80, in Centennial Conference men's basketball action this evening at Cain Athletic Center. The Fords (5-8, 4-4 Centennial) got game highs of 29 points and 10 rebounds from Mark Gabriel, while junior guard Kyle Stem led the Shoremen (5-10, 2-6) with 25 points in the loss.

The Fords jumped out to a 24-12 lead nine minutes into the game and led by double figures the rest of the way. Haverford shot 48% from the field in the game, while Washington shot 44%. Both teams shot well from the free-throw line, with the Fords converting 28 of their 34 attempts and the Shoremen knocking down 17 of their 20 tries at the stripe. Washington turned the ball over 22 times to Haverford's 16 turnovers.

Gabriel was 11-of-16 from the field and seven-of-eight at the line to account for his 29 points. Four other Fords joined him in double figures in the scoring column. Jeremy Bass contributed 19 points, while Jason Polykoff added 17. Mike Kelly and Matt Stein each tallied 10 points. Johnny Elefterakis dished out a game-high eight assists for Haverford.

Stem shot 8-for-12 from the floor and 9-of-10 from the free throw line en route to his 25 point effort. Junior forward Jonathan Webb, who shared game-high rebounding honors with Gabriel by pulling down 10 boards, finished with 16 points.
