Simpson 78, Dubuque 69

Indianola, Iowa — Jason Parkinson's 28 points led Simpson (6-10, 2-5 IIAC) past Dubuque (6-8, 1-5 IIAC) 78-69 in Iowa Conference men's basketball action Jan. 19 in Indianola. The Storm need all of Parkinson's efforts as the Spartans' Nick Thomas scored a season high 38 points to lead all scorers. Thomas posted nine rebounds and eight steals, both game highs for either team.

After a nip-and-tuck first eight minutes, Simpson went on a 16-2 run to take a 31-14 lead with 8:19 remaining in the opening frame. Dubuque switched from a man-to-man defense to a zone to slow the Storm down, and the switch worked, allowing the Spartans to end the half on a 17-6 run to make it 37-31 going into recess.

Simpson opened the lead back up to 10, 54-44, on a T.J. Kasperbauer layup with a little under 11 minutes to go. Dubuque came right back, cutting the lead to 58-56 four minutes later. Parkinson sank three-pointers on the next two Storm possessions to give Simpson a 67-58 lead. Simpson led by as much as 11 down the stretch before going onto victory.

The only other Simpson player to score in double figures was Scott Ellens who had 15 on 7-11 shooting. The only other Dubuque player to reach double figures was Andy Fisch who posted 13.
