McDaniel lost a close battle with Johns Hopkins on Wednesday night in Baltimore, as the Blue Jays shot 9-23 from behind to arc to win 73-64.
A 9-0 Terror run midway through the first half, capped by a Josh McKay turn-around basket, gave McDaniel an 18-10 lead with 12:06 left in the half. The Blue Jays would answer with a 10-2 run to tie the score 20-20 with seven minutes to go until the break. An Eric Toback three-pointer, which gave the Blue Jays a 23-22 lead four minutes remaining, would be a sign of what was to come later in the game. But the Terror would answer and take a 28-25 lead into the break.
The two schools traded baskets for the first 13 minutes of the second half with McDaniel never trailing. Johns Hopkins' Zack Armen would give the Blue Jays their first lead since the first half off a three point play, capping an 8-2 run and making it 53-52 with 5:29 remaining in the game.
Three straight Blue Jay three-pointers, two by TJ Valerio, extended the Johns Hopkins run to 19-4, giving them a 64-54 lead with 2:20 remaining in the contest.
A Sam Anstead basket ended the Blue Jay run, and a Kyle O'Connor three-pointer seconds later pulled the Terror within five, 64-59, but it was too late.
Johns Hopkins made eight of nine free-throws in the final minute of play to win 73-64.
The Blue Jays shot 6-10 (60%) from behind the arc and 14-15 (93%) from the charity stripe in the second half. Five players for Johns Hopkins scored in double digits.
McDaniel was led by O'Connor's 19 points and six rebounds. Anstead finished with 17 points, on 7-13 shooting from the field.
McDaniel falls to 3-12 on the year with the loss, 1-7 in the Centennial. They return to action on Saturday when they travel to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to take on the Bullets. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM.
