Messiah 59, Elizabethtown 45

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — The Elizabethtown College men's basketball team, held to its fewest points scored in a game since a 40-38 loss to York College in the third game of the 1983-84 season, fell 59-45 at home Wednesday night to Commonwealth Conference rival Messiah College. The Blue Jays dropped to 9-7 overall and 3-2 in the conference, while Messiah improved to 13-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
Messiah utilized its height advantage to full advantage throughout the game as the Falcons swatted away 11 Etown shots and out-rebounded the Blue Jays 43-35. Messiah's starters underneath the basket, David Henninger (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) and Jared Yoder (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) did much of the damage, with Henninger scoring 10 points, pulling down 11 rebounds, and blocking seven shots, and with Yoder scoring 18 points, grabbing 14 rebounds, and blocking two shots.
Etown shot just 30.5% (18-for-59) from the field, 21.4% (3-for-14) from thee-point range, and 42.9% (6-for-14) from the free throw line for the game. The Blue Jays' leading scorers were Kyle Conrad (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) and Brian Schreiber (Mechanicsburg, PA/East Pennsboro) with seven points each.
Elizabethtown will return to action on the road Saturday, January 22 against conference rival Lebanon Valley College at 1:00 p.m.
